Katarzyna Warnke — a film and theatre actress, film director and screenwriter, an unconventional and rebellious artist — is this year's winner of the oldest award given at the BellaTOFIFEST IFF!
Katarzyna Warnke is an illustration of the perfectly mastered acting techniques proven in a multitude of unobvious and provocative roles, which call for mature reviews, and not only from the artistic perspective. This is how I perceive the film and theatre excellence of this exceptionally talented Polish actress, director and screenwriter, who also happens to be an honorary guest of the BellaTOFIFEST International Film Festival and a winner of the FLISAK Award of the President of Toruń, comments Paweł Gulewski, President of Toruń.
As a matter of fact, we should all fear Katarzyna Warnke, at least a little, because the powerful women she portrayed in such films as ‘Women of Mafia’ or ‘Pętla’ serve as pure contestation of the conventional and idealised image of women in the world of cinema. At the same time film enthusiasts and connoisseurs of Katarzyna Warnke’s film and theatre work are well aware of the profound motivations that made Krystian Lupa, Grzegorz Jarzyna, Andrzej Wajda or Jan Klata trust her with important acting roles. Dare we say they were always the right choices!
Here in Toruń, we are absolutely certain that such a complex and intriguing artistic image is a symbol of rebellion, which constitutes the most important creed of our festival deeply imprinted in the well-established tradition of the BellaTOFIFEST IFF in our city. This time, this creed can be found in the artistic work of Katarzyna Warnke. This is precisely the reason why I see the opportunity to give the award to this great actress and director as an honour, says President of Toruń, commenting on the winner.
Katarzyna Warnke is going to have a meeting with the audience of the BellaTOFIFEST IFF after the screening of the film ‘Rzeczy niezbędne.’
